We thought this story was particularly interesting considering how "busy" Mayor Richard Daley has been the last two weeks on vacation in places like Ireland while the City of Chicago has had national attention skyrocket for police beatings.

Lawyers for a man Chicago police are alleged to have tortured to get a murder confession filed a motion this week to force the deposition of Mayor Richard Daley in a federal lawsuit.
The motion comes less than three weeks after lawyers for the City of Chicago filed a motion seeking to block Daley's testimony. They argued that requiring the deposition of a "busy public official" was premature and unnecessary.

The mayor said in February that he has no new information to provide on the subject of police abuse, but that he has "no problems" with answering questions under oath in the lawsuit.
The latest motion asks U.S. District Judge Amy St. Eve to order a prompt deposition of the mayor in the case of Darrell Cannon, 56, one of five men alleging former Chicago Police Cmdr. Jon Burge and his officers subjected them to torture to extract false confessions. Daley is an important witness about the facts in the case, according to the motion.
Lawyers want to question Daley about numerous matters, including what he may have known about torture of many other individuals while he was the Cook County state's attorney.
